Renewed or die. Over the years technology has come into our lives to stay. This innovation and avant-garde also revolutionizes the hotel sector in Malaga. In the province you can find stays for all kinds of tastes. Now a new model lands: the capsule hotel. Under the name of Futurotel, this hotel has 40 capsule rooms, which offer all the comforts of a conventional room. Capsule hotels began to arrive in Spain after the pandemic, but little by little they have begun to land in several large cities. Though may seem like a new concept Europathis form of accommodation was born in Japan in 1977. Entering this hotel of the future is possible just a few meters from La Malagueta beach. Located on Maestranza street, it is a “a concept based on being able to bring lodging to all budgets”.

A model that is already installed in other large cities such as Madrid or Valencia: “We did several market studies, because we had doubts about where to open the next one. We ended up choosing Malaga because it’s amazing, the city is in fashion”says Pedro Martín, advertising director of Futurotel.

In total, this hotel has 40 capsules spread over 5 rooms. Rooms reminiscent of the mythical Star Trek ship. In addition to being equipped with the latest technology. To access each capsule, you must use a card; within these we find a wide bed, air conditioning and reading light. The hotel also offers a streaming package that includes platforms such as Netflix or HBO.

The technology does not end there, it also extends to other areas, including smart bathrooms. The toilets have water jet cleaning and lid heating. Washing your hands while reading or watching a video is also possible, since its mirrors are smart. Outside the rooms have gaming area, private jacuzzi, kitchen and vending machines both drinks and hot food. Another of the services they offer is the personalization of your capsule. For example, depending on the weight they offer one mattress or another: “In addition, depending on what position you sleep in, they recommend a type of pillow,” says Martín.

This type of accommodation “shocks” some people from Malaga: “But who tries repeats. Many are reluctant because they associate it with sleeping in a niche, but when they enter and see the facilities they end up making reservations,” says Maria, a hotel worker. The opening in the capital of Malaga has been a complete success and this is demonstrated by its occupancy levels: “We have had more than one 90% occupancy every month, some have even stayed for two months,” says the worker.

For Martín, what most attracts people is “the experience”: “This is like a hostel with a VIP experience and at a cheaper price. In summer the price goes up, but during other months it is around between 40 and 60 euros per night”. Its target audience is usually mostly young foreigners: “Many retired older people or families with children also come. Although 3% of our clients are from Malaga who go there just to live the experience,” explains the Marketing director. “The treatment is something that is repeated a lot in the comments that they leave us,” says María. Something in which Martín agrees: “We seek to provide a five-star service.”

Its next opening will be in mid-January, in Granada: “There will be nine rooms equipped with home automation”.
