“Let’s attack!”: Captain Lukas Görtler extends his contract with FC St.Gallen until 2028

FC St.Gallen is keeping its captain: After careful consideration on his part, Lukas Görtler will stay with Espen and extend his contract until 2028.

Is it going? Or is it not going? For weeks, FC St.Gallen fans have been wondering if Captain Lukas Görtler will leave the Espen for the second Bundesliga or if he will stay in eastern Switzerland. Now the 30-year-old announces in a letter to his fans: “I am delighted that I have extended my contract until 2028.”

In his letter, the German looks back on his time in St.Gallen: the second place, the trophy and the “incredible recognition” he felt inside and outside the club.

Although he misses his home, family and friends in Germany, according to Görtler, he “won his heart again” as he did in 2021. Even back then, moving back to Germany was under discussion. After weeks of consideration, he decided on FC St.Gallen.

So now again: Görtler repeatedly emphasizes in the letter the affection and recognition of the people of St.Gallen and the “love and passion that arose in me for our club”. Finally, he thanks the fans, FCSG President Matthias Hüppi and sporting director Roger Stilz, among others, and writes: “Let’s attack!”
