Car accident in Saudi Arabia due to camel collision; Two people died

Jeddah: Two people, including a man and a woman, died in Saudi Arabia after a vehicle hit a stray camel. According to the report, the vehicle overturned on impact and hit a truck which was moving in the other direction.

It is reported that two persons were killed and three girls were injured in the accident on Bisha-Al Jube road. They were shifted to King Abdullah Hospital in Bisha. But which country they belong to has not been disclosed.

Saudi Civil Defence, Red Crescent, Police and Traffic Department rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. A man and a woman were found dead at the scene and their bodies were recovered from the wreckage of the vehicle. Many citizens and road users have asked the Ministry of Transport to improve the Bisha-Al Jube road, which regularly witnesses many road accidents, and to take immediate action in this regard.

The number of camels in Saudi Arabia is more than 1.4 million. Riyadh region has the largest herd of camels. The population of camels in Riyadh region is estimated to be around 32,257. It is followed by the eastern region with 256,079 camels. Over the past few years, Saudi Arabia has reported several accidents involving camels. Especially since camels have a tendency to cross the road unexpectedly, increasing accidents. For this reason, Saudi Arabia has come up with several preventive measures to mitigate the heavy losses from such accidents.

As part of the measures, the Home Ministry has imposed heavy fines on camel owners who let their cattle wander on the road. Accordingly, the law punishes the owners of camels who cause road accidents. Along with that, the authorities put up fences to prevent the animals from wandering. And to keep track of owners and the safety of everyone on the road, Saudi Arabia has microchipped every camel in the country and created a nationwide camel database.
