Sales of new cars in 2022 will collapse “by at least 2 times, maybe three times,” Vyacheslav Zubarev, president of the Russian Auto Dealers Association (RoAD), said on April 20 at an association convention. Now a client who called or went to a car dealership is a rarity, he described the current situation in auto retail.
Sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in 2021, according to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), amounted to 1.67 million units, which is 4.3% more than a year earlier. In the first quarter of 2022, sales, according to AEB estimates, decreased by 28% to 277,332 units. In March, they fell 63% to 55,129 cars, and as a result, the month was the worst since April 2020, when car dealerships were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
