A shower of condemnations. After the car-ram attack on the night of the home of the LR mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne) Vincent Jeanbrun, the political class reacted widely. The mayor’s wife and one of his two young children were injured in the attack which has been investigated for attempted murder.
Referring to “intolerable facts”, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne assured in a press release that “the culprits will be prosecuted with the greatest firmness”. She spoke on Sunday morning with the president of the AMIF (Association of mayors of Île-de-France) and that of the AMF (Association of mayors of France) to “assure them of her support and that of the government to all the mayors who are alongside the inhabitants on the front line in the face of violence”.
“To attack the life of an elected official and that of his family is to attack the Nation”, reacted on Twitter the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher (LR), in tune with his counterpart of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, for whom “public engagement should never be synonymous with danger, neither for oneself nor for those one loves”.
Cher @VincentJeanbrun your republican determination honors you. To attack the life of an elected official and that of his family is to attack the #Nation. Nothing justifies the horror of which you have been the victim this night: may Justice pass with firmness! https://t.co/6HpFNTvqXi

“Immense anger” at “this spiral of violence”
On Twitter, Éric Ciotti, the boss of the Republicans, of which Vincent Jeanbrun was recently appointed spokesperson, condemned “acts of extreme gravity which must lead their authors to an assize court”. “The cowardice and ignominy of such an attack will not make him back down. Honor to his courage, ”launched the president of Île-de-France Valérie Pécresse, to whom Vincent Jeanbrun is very close.
Full support @VincentJeanbrun mayor of #LHayLesRoses whose family was targeted that night. My loving thoughts are with them. The cowardice and ignominy of such an attack will not make him back down. Honor to his courage. https://t.co/kl0Rwm1ipn

On the far right, Marine Le Pen believes that a “new milestone has been crossed”, sending all her “thoughts” to the mayor’s family. Same comment on the side of the president of Reconquest, Éric Zemmour according to which “a course has yet been crossed”. “These savages dared to touch his family, because he is only wrong to be mayor and therefore to represent France”, he reacts vehemently.
A new milestone was reached last night with the fire at the home of the mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses.
All my thoughts are with Vincent Jeanbrun, his children and his wife, who is hospitalized today.

Also on the left, Marine Tondelier, number one of EELV, assured that “ecologists give their fullest support to Vincent Jeanbrun”. “What he experienced is unspeakable”, she tweeted, in tune with the first secretary of the PS who evokes “tremendous anger” in the face of “this spiral of violence” and brings his “solidarity” to the mayor.
“All my best wishes for a speedy recovery. This violence is intolerable, unjustifiable, inadmissible, ”wrote MP LFI François Ruffin on Twitter. “I share the fear of the Jeanbrun family”, reacted soberly Jean-Luc Mélenchon, sharing a press release from the LFI group of the Île-de-France regional council, reaffirming “any refusal of violence”.
