Car Recalls: Ford Explorer SUVs at Risk of Rollaway Issue
Ford has recently announced a recall of over 230,000 of its mid-size SUVs due to a safety issue that could potentially cause the vehicle to roll away. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the recall specifically affects certain 2020-2022 Ford Explorer vehicles.
The safety regulator explained that the rear axle horizontal mounting bolt on these SUVs may fracture, leading to the disconnection of the driveshaft. This can result in a loss of drive power or, in the absence of the parking brake being applied, a vehicle rollaway. Both scenarios pose a heightened risk of a crash.
This recall comes following an inquiry by NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation, which was prompted by two complaints about repairs that did not work for two previous recalls – one in the current year and another in the previous year.
