Douglas Omar García Funes, born on April 17, 1965, in the municipality of San Bartolomé Perulapía, Cuscatlán, served as deputy director of Specialized Operational Areas of the National Civil Police (PNC). He was deputy director of the Investigations Directorate and head of the Special Anti-Terrorist Group (GEAT) and the Transnational Anti-Gang Center (CAT).
He completed his higher education studies at the Universidad Las Américas in El Salvador, graduating with a degree in Legal Sciences. He joined the PNC on September 19, 1993, with the rank of sub-commissioner of the first promotion of the Higher Level. From the moment he started, he was already familiar with weapons, discipline and honorability.
He was a cadet at the Captain General Gerardo Barrios Military School and from there he became one of the founders of the PNC. He was chief of many of the important units of the police corporation, gaining comprehensive experience in the police strategy to counteract crime. He knew the evolution of gangs and has fought them ever since.
Within his professional training in the police corporation, he obtained different achievements such as the rank of sub-commissioner and commissioner. He also received courses in Hostage Negotiations Techniques, Customs, Planning and Government, Police Technique and Human Rights Workshop, Seminar Workshop on Prevention and Education of Student Gangs, among many others.
Douglas Omar García Funes, led anti-crime operations effectively. During his career in the institution he showed a high spirit of service, receiving different recognitions and congratulations from different heads for the good performance of his duties.
