In Chiapas, the migrant caravan with about three thousand people from Central and South America advances through the Soconusco area. Today they left the Álvaro Obregón community where they slept, advanced another 14 kilometers to reach the municipality of Huehuetán and set up camp in a local public park.

The migrants and activists indicated that they are waiting for a dialogue table with the National Institute of Migration (INM) to request that the majority be granted the multiple migratory form to be able to transit through the country towards the northern border, meanwhile, there are those who request their regularization of stay to stay in the country.

The thousands of migrants demanded a dialogue from the federal government to grant them immigration documents and warned that, if they do not receive a response, they will start protests.

The migrants have walked despite registering a temperature of up to 35 degrees, for which women and children have been treated by emergency bodies.

The activist Irineo Mújica, from the organization Pueblos Sin Fronteras, raised the need to dialogue with the Mexican government to regularize their immigration status, since thousands of migrants must remain for months in the south of the country waiting for the immigration authorities to deliver the permits to be able to cross Mexico and reach the border with the United States.

Mújica, who convened the caravan, said that the contingent left the border town of Tapachula on Sunday with some 3,000 people and has grown in recent hours as many migrants joined during the several-kilometre journey. The mobilization arrived this Monday in the southern town of Huehuetán, Chiapas state.

The last large caravan was reported last June when some 7,000 migrants marched within the framework of the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. Since then, only small groups have tried to leave Tapachula, the city that some migrants consider a large prison due to the difficulties they face in leaving and continuing on their journey in search of regularization.
