Tourism is in full swing in Carcassonne, Thursday 27 October. The weather is ideal for discovering the fortified city with its ramparts, its castle with 32 towers and its medieval streets. Reportage.
On the program for Thursday, October 27 for a group of tourists in Carcassonne (Aude), the discovery of the secrets of the city. “There are a lot of tourists, but it’s still affordable. We’re not at Eurodisney, there’s no queuing problem”, rejoices one of them. Guided tours are always full, and some are already sold out. “Yesterday it was armored, today too”, confides Gwen Barpette, tourist guide. New visiting hours had to be added to meet demand.
The unexpected crowds delight the city’s restaurant owners. “It was slow at the beginning, there with the arrival of the weekend, it goes up a little”, observes Christophe Joye, restaurateur. Tourists preferred to book at the last moment. “This year, it’s really special, because it’s more than last minute, it’s extremely last minute”, notes Muriel Brunet, director of the Carcassonne tourist office. In 2021, the city attracted more than 30,000 people in October. The tourist office hopes to exceed this figure this season, despite Asian travelers with absent subscribers.
