Cardinals Pitcher Adam Wainwright to Perform Concert in Farewell to Fans

BALTIMORE — As Adam Wainwright prepares to bid farewell to St. Louis fans and life on the baseball diamond, the Cardinals pitcher has announced that he will perform a postgame concert during his final weekend playing at Busch Stadium. The 42-year-old, who plans to retire after this season, will treat fans to three original songs from his upcoming country album.

Wainwright’s concert is scheduled for September 30, the second-to-last day of the season. “I’m excited about sharing some music with everybody, and hopefully they’ll like it,” Wainwright expressed on Wednesday before the Cardinals faced the Baltimore Orioles. “It’s a fun opportunity for me.”

With 199 career wins and a World Series championship under his belt, Wainwright has certainly left his mark on the baseball world. The three-time All Star and two-time Gold Glove recipient has also showcased his musical talents at the Cardinals’ home stadium before. He performed the national anthem prior to the team’s home opener earlier this year.

When asked about his musical aspirations, Wainwright drew parallels between performing music and pitching in high-pressure situations. “The anthem was a lot of pressure,” he said. “If I mess my own song up, I can get by, and no one will even know it because I haven’t put the album out yet.”

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol praised Wainwright’s confidence on and off the field. “I think he’s more confident on the mound,” Marmol said. “Once he gets going, he’s good. But he’s done the pitching thing a little longer.” Marmol also revealed that Wainwright has shared samples of his music, often sending them late at night. “I’ve actually gone to see him play. I enjoyed it. It will be fun,” Marmol added.

Wainwright’s teammates, including reliever Matthew Liberatore, are eagerly anticipating his concert. “He’s a really good guitar player,” Liberatore said. “It’s mostly country, and that’s what I like. So I’m looking forward to hearing it.”

During the concert, fans will have the opportunity to preview songs from Wainwright’s upcoming album, which will feature 15 tracks. Wainwright plans to release teasers on social media leading up to the album drop. “This is more of an in-depth look at what we’re all about,” he explained. “It’s all songs about me and my upbringing.”

Once his baseball career concludes, Wainwright intends to focus on music and broadcasting. “It’s going to be one of the chapters,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of chapters in the book – five kids and a wife. I’m going to do some broadcasting too, but this will be a part of it for sure.”

As Wainwright prepares to take his final bow on the baseball diamond, his postgame concert will undoubtedly serve as a memorable and emotional farewell to Cardinals fans.
