Theo Vietnamplusmovie Retired General was awarded the Silver Lotus Cup, the highest prize at the Vietnam Film Festival in 1990 (there was no gold prize that year) and the film Nguyen Ai Quoc in Hong Kong co-directed by People’s Artist Nguyen Khac Loi and Vien The Ky, it won a special award at the Kite Awards in 2003.

Director Nguyen Khac Loi shared about behind the scenes of filming Nguyen Ai Quoc in Hong Kong. In an interview with Sports Culture In 2002, he said: “The characters played by Chinese people are all 1m75 or taller, so we had to choose actors with corresponding heights.

After watching the performances of some domestic actors, we decided to choose Hoang Phuc (1m78 tall) to play the role of Le Duy Diem; Ngo Quang Hai (1m75 tall) to play the role of Ho Tung Mau, a very close person and trusted by Uncle Ho.

The most difficult part is still the person playing Nguyen Ai Quoc, the actor must clearly express his mood and fate. After much consideration, we chose Tran Luc. This time, we will show the tape of Luc’s rehearsal to the Chinese side.

In terms of appearance, Luc is 1m75 tall, has a long face, delicate features, and with Chinese makeup art, we believe Luc will perform well.”

In an interview with People’s Public Security Online In 2009, the director added about choosing actor Tran Luc: “Honestly, choosing the role of Nguyen Ai Quoc when he was over 40 years old was the most difficult part. I still remember that I stayed awake many nights because I didn’t know which actor to choose. Those who have played the role of Uncle Ho are very familiar to the audience.

The young actors’ performances lacked depth. The image of Tran Luc flashed through my mind, but I still hadn’t decided. The next day, I went to the Ho Chi Minh Museum to look for documents about Uncle Ho.

Knowing the story, a museum employee suddenly blurted out: “I think Tran Luc looks like Uncle Ho when he was young.” Seeing that someone had the same idea as me, I called Tran Luc to audition and finally the film was completed as expected.
