The village of Cargèse, in Corse-du-Sud, very popular with tourists in August, has been without electricity and network since the morning of Thursday August 18. In some neighborhoods, it is even water that is lacking.

All day Friday, August 19, the southern entrance to Cargèse (Corse-du-Sud) was very busy. Here the phone goes. Residents and tourists rushed there to give news to their loved ones. Since Thursday morning, time seems to have stopped: no electricity, no network, and in some parts of the village, no water. EDF services are on a war footing to replace the pylons torn by the wind.

Too long for some vacationers. “No more power, everything is closed, the shops are closed… So (…) the holidays are a bit ruined, yeah”, says a man. Some businesses resist, and continue their activity in the dark. As for the inhabitants, they do against bad luck, good heart. “It’s happening. It’s a bit painful without electricity, but we adapt to everything”, says a woman. The town hall of Cargèse believes that it has coped with the crisis: initially by quickly taking charge of the shipwrecked people, then by good coordination of the services. Two powerful generators took the direction of the town in the evening.
