Five days after his serious accident during the second stage of the Dakar Rallye, Carles Falcón is already in Spain with his family. The TwinTrail Racing Team driver was transferred this past Friday from Riyadh to Spain in a medical plane, and is now waiting to undergo new tests and scans to understand what the next steps will be in his recovery.
As explained by the Catalan team in a brief press release, “Carles was transferred this Friday by medical plane to Spain. He is admitted to the ICU and remains in critical condition.. The doctors are going to perform new tests according to the protocol. His family and friends appreciate all the messages of support received. We will continue to inform you when there is news.”
Carles was a victim of a hard and fast fall during the last stages of the second stage of the Dakar, celebrated on Sunday, January 7. The Catalan lost control of his KTM 450 Replica at kilometer 448 of the special, when he was close to completing the stage.
The proximity to the finish line allowed the medical teams to arrive quickly; Falcón was unconscious and not breathing, and after some first aid, The Spaniard regained his pulse and was transferred to Al Duwadimi hospital. There, a first examination revealed a fracture in the C2 vertebra, in addition to severe edema in the head that forced sedation.
On Monday, in the middle of the morning, Falcón was transferred to another hospital, in Riyadh, and since then the doctors have kept him in an induced coma waiting for the inflammation of the edema he suffers in his head to reduce. Precisely this setback has prevented them from being able to operate on his back for the moment.
In the fall, Carles Falcón also suffered a wrist fracture, a clavicle fracture and five broken ribs, a medical report that undoubtedly helps to give us an idea of the speed at which the TwinTrail Racing Team driver was traveling at the time of the serious accident. Carles has not come out of the induced coma since Sunday, and his condition throughout this week has been critical.

Isaac Feliú, his partner in the TwinTrail Racing Team, He abandoned the race the same Sunday to stay with Carles at all times.. Falcón was participating in his second Dakar after finishing the 2022 edition in 68th position overall, 16th in the Original by Motul category, where participants do not have their own mechanical support.
