In a big surprise, one that has rocked everyone at WWE, R-Truth revealed this morning that he will be exiting the company once his contract expires. As it turns out, he’s not the only one.
PW Insider first reported Carlito would also be on his way out once his deal expires and the man himself quickly took to social media to confirm that is indeed the case and exactly when that will be:
My contract is up in 2 weeks. It will not be renewed. On top of that, WWE is demanding I pay back the $ they paid me for apparently “stealing money” from the company. He at least seems to be in relatively good spirits about it.
This comes just one night after Carlito won the Puerto Rican Championship from Ray Gonzalez in WWC:
Carlito had been working as a member of The Judgment Day in WWE, mostly acting as comedy relief for the group. He originally re-signed with WWE in 2023 after many years working independents.
WWE Shakeup: R-Truth and Carlito Announce Departures – An Expert Weighs In
Time.news: we’re here today with wrestling industry analyst, Brenda starr, to discuss the surprising news of R-Truth and Carlito’s impending departures from WWE. Brenda, thanks for joining us.
Brenda Starr: It’s my pleasure. Always happy to talk wrestling.
Time.news: Let’s dive right in. R-Truth’s exit is described as a shock [[1]]. What’s your take on the impact of this departure given his 17-year run?
Brenda Starr: R-Truth has been a constant presence in WWE for so long; he’s a beloved figure. His departure creates a void, especially in the comedic and veteran leadership aspects of the roster. He brought a unique energy that is hard to replicate. Losing that experience and connection with the fans is a significant blow.
Time.news: The news gets even more fascinating with Carlito also announcing his exit! He confirmed that his contract will not be renewed [[2]][[3]]. Adding a layer, he joked about WWE wanting him to pay back money. What’s your reaction to this?
Brenda Starr: Carlito’s situation is fascinating. He notes that his deal is up in two weeks and it will not be renewed, per reports [[2]][[3]]. The joke about owing money is likely just that – a joke. WWE has a long history of using humor and sarcasm in its storylines and public announcements, but it may reflect some behind-the-scenes tension.
Time.news: Carlito’s tweet mentioned his contract expiring in two weeks and his non-renewal [[2]][[3]]. What does this say about contract negotiations and the current state of WWE talent relations?
Brenda Starr: It highlights the often-unpredictable nature of WWE contracts. Even after a return and a stint with a prominent faction like Judgment Day, a renewal isn’t guaranteed. It underscores the importance for wrestlers to have alternative plans and understand the business side of wrestling. WWE is a business first, and talent decisions are often strategic. It also hints at the competitive wrestling landscape, with opportunities elsewhere if WWE doesn’t see long-term value.
Time.news: Carlito had been part of Judgment Day, seemingly in a comedic role. How does his departure impact that faction, and could it signal a shift in Judgment Day’s direction?
brenda Starr: Carlito’s role in Judgment Day was primarily as comic relief. His departure is less likely to drastically alter the faction’s core storyline. However, it does remove a layer of entertainment, and WWE might look to fill that void with another character or shift the group’s dynamic to be more serious or aggressive.
Time.news: Just before the announcement, Carlito won the WWC puerto Rico Championship. How significant is this win in light of his upcoming WWE departure?
Brenda Starr: It is indeed quite the interesting timing and could be a strategic move. For Carlito, winning the WWC Puerto Rico Championship allows him to maintain momentum and relevance in the wrestling world. It also reinforces his legacy and connection with the Puerto Rican audience. He can use this title to leverage opportunities on the independent circuit after his WWE contract expires.
Time.news: Any parting thoughts for aspiring wrestlers or fans trying to understand the complexities of the wrestling industry?
Brenda Starr: Remember that wrestling is a constantly evolving business. Talent needs to be versatile, understand their market value, and always be prepared for change. For fans, appreciate the performers’ hard work and understand that what you see on TV is frequently enough just the tip of the iceberg. Enjoy the ride!
Time.news: Brenda, thanks so much for your insights.
Brenda Starr: My pleasure.
