Carlos Alcaraz won in straight sets
Successful start for Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires: The reigning Wimbledon champion won his round of 16 game against Argentine qualifier Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6:2 and 7:5. The second in the world rankings achieved his first win of the season on clay.
“It was a really difficult match,” said Alcaraz, who lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, after the encounter. In the quarter-finals, the Buenos Aires defending champions will face the Italian Andrea Vavassori.
Last year’s finalist Cameron Norrie suffered a defeat on Thursday. The Brit, who was seeded second, lost to Federico Coria, who had held his own against Sebastian Ofner in round one, 2:6, 6:4 and 3:6. With Luciano Darderi (4:6 and 5:7 against Sebastian Baez), the newly crowned Cordoba champion was also eliminated.
