Carlos “Charly” Pérez, who for more than two decades led the public relations and later promotion departments for Universal Music Latino, has been appointed senior vice president of communications and public relations for Warner Music Latina, effective immediately.

Pérez will continue to be based in Miami, reporting to Roberto Andrade Dirak, managing director, Warner Music Latina, who Pérez previously worked with when Andrade Dirak managed Sebastián Yatra.

In his new position, Pérez will create strategies to promote Warner Music Latina artists and executives to multiple media outlets. He will also work closely with Rubén Abraham, SVP, marketing and artistic strategy, and Héctor Rubén Rivera, SVP, director of A&R, Latin music. Both also report to Andrade Dirak.

Pérez is widely recognized for his vast knowledge, integrity and professionalism in the world of Latin music, as well as his ability to identify up-and-coming artists. For example, Pérez was instrumental in pushing early coverage of artists like Karol G, Feid and Sebastián Yatra — now superstars — when they were just starting out.

Pérez is also particularly valuable today sharing his in-depth knowledge of genres such as pop, urban music, and regional Mexican.

In fact, he began 26 years ago working as an assistant in the international department of Televisa in Mexico, where he became label manager. Later, she went to Univision Music Mexico as label manager, focused on the regional Mexican market, working with artists such as Los Tigres del Norte, Ana Bárbara, Banda El Recodo and Jenni Rivera. Later he moved to Miami as a press and television coordinator.

Pérez continued to climb and after Universal Music Latin Entertainment was acquired by Univision Music, he remained at Universal as national advertising director. In 2020, he was named international vice president of public relations and promotion, overseeing Universal Music Latino, Machete Music and Capitol Latin and working closely with Fonovisa and Disa, the two regional Mexican music labels.

“I am very happy and grateful for this enormous opportunity to be part of the Warner Music Latina team,” said Pérez. “I will bring my experience to the table as we continue to evolve as a company, amplify our value to artists and position ourselves as a leader at the intersection of music and technology.”

“Charly is an extraordinary addition to our team at Warner Music Latina,” said Andrade Dirak. “His knowledge and experience of him transcends genres and borders, and he has helped bring the best of Latin music to every corner of the world, empowering the careers of the artists with whom he has worked. We are happy to welcome you.”

Pérez says goodbye to Universal on excellent terms.
