The University of Xalapa announced the death of its rector and founder, Carlos García Méndez, who had 33 years in office.

Through its social networks, the University of Xalapa reported the death of its rector, this Thursday January 9 remembering the legacy he leaves.

“In these moments of mourning we express our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. We raise our prayers for their eternal rest and we assure them of our unconditional support,” the obituary reads.

Carlos García Méndez founded the University of Xalapa and remained in the position of rector for 33 years and the institution will remember that “under his guidance, the university was consolidated as an institution of excellence committed to the training of professionals capable of facing the challenges of present and build a better future.”

The news shocked some politicians in the municipality and the entity such as the local deputy. Hector Yunes Landa who mourned the death of the rector:

“There are no adjectives to define an exceptional Veracruz native. A tireless promoter of education, an efficient and honest public official, a cultured man, generous with all of us who had the privilege of knowing him, but above all, a true friend. He will leave as a legacy his professional career and what the University of Xalapa (UX) represents today.”

Prior to founding the University of Xalapa, Carlos García Méndez obtained several academic recognitions such as completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Veracruz UniversityMaster in Educational Sciences at the Institute of Higher Studies of PueblaDoctorate in Philosophy with a specialty in Educational Sciences from the Atlantic International University and one more Doctorate in Law from the University of Almeriain Spain.
