The Democratic Left (ID) is moving between two currents of militancy. The final decision on the presidential candidate will be made in two weeks.

The national president of Democratic Left (ID), Analía Ledesma, stated on July 24 that the party still does not have a defined candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2025.

Ledesma thus ruled out the possibility that the former Vice-Presidential candidate for Correa, Carlos Rabascall, would be the ID representative in the election, as was reported on social media on Wednesday.

The leader did acknowledge that ID members in several provinces support Rabascall as the party’s pre-candidate.

While another part of the political group’s supporters prefer it to be someone who has come from the ranks of the ID, and for that reason, they support Guillermo Landázuri.

Other names that have been linked to the ID for a possible presidential pre-candidacy have been discarded along the way, said Ledesma, so the dispute would be between Rabascall and Landázuri.

The definition

On July 27, the Democratic Left will hold a meeting at its headquarters located in the north of Quito, aimed primarily at recruiting new members, in view of the elections in February 2025.

Ledesma said that, as far as he knows, Rabascall is not affiliated with the Citizen Revolution, of which he was a candidate, and he does not believe that his Correa-supporting past is a problem for the ID.

«“What we are looking for is a third way that moves away from this neoliberal government and from radical leftist tendencies.” Analía Ledesma, leader of the ID
