A dominant performance in Jakarta saw Carlos Yulo claim the vault gold medal on Saturday, October 25th, adding to his growing legacy as a global gymnastics superstar. This victory marks his second podium finish at the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships and his third World crown overall.
Building on Paris 2024 Success
Yulo’s triumph comes on the heels of a stellar showing at Paris 2024, where he secured gold medals in both the floor exercise and vault, catapulting him to international prominence. The 25-year-old gymnast is now firmly established as a force to be reckoned with in the world of competitive gymnastics.
A Tight Race to the Top
The competition was fierce, with Yulo finishing with a two-vault average of 14.866. This narrowly edged out Artur Davtyan of Armenia, who achieved a final average of 14.833. Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine rounded out the podium, earning the bronze medal with a score of 14.483.
Yulo’s Vault Performances
Vaulting third in the final, Yulo delivered a breathtaking performance on his first attempt – a front handspring, double pike front half out. He executed a flawless landing, earning a .100 bonus and a 9.500 execution score for a total of 15.200.
His second vault, a front handspring, front layout with two-and-a-half twists, was also impressive, though it included a slight shuffle on the landing, resulting in a score of 14.533.
A Nail-Biting Finish
The win appeared secure for Yulo until Davtyan, the last competitor, delivered two exceptional vaults. Despite a strong showing from the Armenian gymnast, Yulo ultimately held on to secure the gold. “It looked like it could be an easy win for Yulo until Davtyan, last to go, stuck both of his vault,” one observer noted.
This is Yulo’s second global title on the vault apparatus, solidifying his position as a leading figure in the sport.
