A captivating new series starring Alicia Silverstone will debut with a soundtrack featuring the work of Glen Austin, a musician and producer from Rathoe, County Carlow, Ireland. The inclusion marks a significant milestone for Austin and his band, New Airs, bringing their unique interpretations of Irish classics to a wider American audience.
A Rising Star in Irish Music
Glen Austin specializes in re-interpreting classic, folk, and modern Irish music. His band, New Airs, released their debut album several years ago, offering instrumental versions of popular songs by artists including U2, Kodaline, The Script, Snow Patrol, and Enya. Austin’s musical journey extends beyond New Airs, encompassing collaborations with a diverse range of acclaimed Irish and international artists.
He has recorded with prominent figures such as Liam Ó Maonlaí of The Hot House Flowers, Brian Kennedy, Mundy, and Wallis Bird, demonstrating his versatility and respected position within the Irish music scene.
“The Boys Are Back in Town” on the “Irish Blood” Soundtrack
The breakthrough came with the inclusion of New Airs’ rendition of Thin Lizzy’s iconic song, “The Boys Are Back in Town,” on the soundtrack for “Irish Blood,” a new series streaming on Acorn TV. “It came out of the blue, really,” Austin explained. “The musical director of the series got in contact with me in January this year about using the track and, between the contract clearance and all, the final go ahead was about two months ago.”
The series, which recently launched in the United States, centers on Silverstone’s character, a lawyer estranged from her father, who travels to Ireland after receiving a message from him, ultimately uncovering her family’s hidden history. Filming took place almost entirely in County Wicklow, a location with personal significance for Austin, as his father, Tom, hails from Carnew within the county.
A First for New Airs and a Potential Sky Release
This marks the first time New Airs’ music has been featured in a major television production. “It’s very cool to be associated with it,” Austin stated. While currently available in the USA, there is potential for “Irish Blood” to be released on Sky television later this year, further expanding the reach of both the series and Austin’s musical contribution.
This collaboration represents a significant step forward for the Rathoe-based producer, showcasing the vibrancy and appeal of contemporary Irish music on an international stage.
