After the outbreak of the Civil War, the founding community of this convent was arrested and transferred to the Ursuline house in Getafe. The nuns then remained sheltered for 14 months in a house on Claudio Coello Street in Madrid.

Having made the decision to move away from Madrid dominated by anticlerical forces, they managed to leave Spain and, after a visit to the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France, they returned to the province of Salamanca, in the northwest of Spain.

During those months, in the middle of the war, Santa Maravillas founded a new convent at the request of the Bishop of Coria, Mons. Francisco Barbado y Viejo, OP. At the end of the fratricidal conflict in 1939, the community returned to Cerro de los Ángeles.
