Doha, January 21, 2026 — Qatar is poised to make “strategic investments” in key Canadian sectors, including clean energy, health, artificial intelligence, and defense, according to Prime Minister Mark Carney. The move signals a deepening economic partnership and a commitment to job creation within Canada.

A New Chapter in Canada-Qatar Relations

The announcement comes as Canada seeks to diversify its trade relationships and attract foreign investment.

  • Qatar has pledged strategic investments in Canada’s clean energy, health, AI, and defense industries.
  • Both nations aim to strengthen cultural ties, including increased flight frequency to boost tourism.
  • Negotiations for a new Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (APIE) are expected to conclude by summer.
