The Carrefour distributor is preparing to cut nearly 1,000 jobs in its headquarters in France, a source familiar with the matter told AFP, confirming the information revealed in particular by the Letter A or LSA. “We do not comment, we favor dialogue with the social partners”, replied the communication from the Carrefour group to the press agency.

In France, the distributor has offices in Massy (Essonne), Évry (Essonne) and Mondeville (Calvados). These job cuts should not only concern France. Europe-wide, the total is “still being assessed”, according to Letter A.

On the sidelines of the group’s General Assembly on Friday, the CFDT union had indicated on Twitter that it expected “a new restructuring which is announced before the end of the year”, adding that “trade unions should soon be invited to negotiate a specific Seat amendment for this new departure plan”.

Modalities not yet known

Contacted on Tuesday and Wednesday by AFP, the trade unions have not yet been officially informed of the terms of this expected plan for “transformation of the seats”, and preferred to wait for more information before officially positioning themselves.

During the presentation of its strategic plan for 2026 for the distributor, its CEO Alexandre Bompard announced a new plan for “cost savings” of 4 billion euros, including “significant reductions in the workforce in each” European seats.

The CEO of the group did not give any indication of the extent of these reductions, simply indicating that “in Europe, there is enormous potential for pooling to be exploited” and that “everything that must be pooled in our organization will be”.
