Carrot/Cepea: Prices remain stable and demand remains weakened in MG

This week (28/08 to 1/09), “dirty” carrot prices remained unchanged in the producing region of São Gotardo (MG), at an average of R$ 50.00/box of 29 kg. With the low demand, some producers are selling their roots at lower prices to be able to sell, which ends up negatively influencing the regional market. However, most carrot producers in the region are reluctant and are maintaining prices so as not to affect the market in other areas, since MG is a reference for the formation of quotations.

The low demand can be explained by the period at the end of the month, but, on the other hand, requests for carrots of the “G” variety have increased and there are no necessary roots of this type to supply the demand, due to the maturation time they have in the farm. According to collaborators from Hortifruti/Cepea, the quality of the carrots is good and there are still sales to BA, which guarantees a part of the flow. For the next few weeks, the period for receiving wages may give the market a boost.
