Cartagena Suspends Classes Amid Nationwide Taxi Strike to Ensure Student Safety

In light of the nationwide taxi drivers’ strike called by providers of this transportation service across the country, the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena has decided that classes in all public and private schools of the District will be suspended this Tuesday, July 23.

The measure also extends to private schools; however, they will be able to determine whether to implement virtual classes this Tuesday. In this way, the aim is to ensure the protection of students and avoid chaos or disruptions in mobility, particularly during peak hours.

The mayor, Dumek Turbay Paz, explained that in coordination with the Metropolitan Police of Cartagena, all necessary guarantees will be provided for the development of a peaceful protest.
He emphasized that, within the framework of respect for the rights of all citizens, it is expected that the day can proceed in complete peace without affecting public and private property.

The Mayor’s Office of Cartagena urges that, in respect of the autonomy of companies, those who have the necessary technological and logistical conditions should work virtually or remotely this Tuesday, July 23.

Additionally, the Mayor’s Office invites citizens to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary, and to reschedule activities for Wednesday or another day of the week.

Academic activities in public schools of the District will resume on Wednesday, July 24, at their usual schedule. The understanding and cooperation of the entire educational community regarding this preventive measure is appreciated.
