“As the start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire approaches, this new documentary on the historic journey of the national football team during the Qatar 2022 World Cup is intended to be a consecration of the efforts of the Atlas Lions who thus gave a lesson in determination and resilience by obtaining their best performance at one of the most important international sporting events,” announced the Moroccan journalist and producer of the film, Abdellah Jaafari.
This gripping documentary, which looks back at the unprecedented feat of the Atlas Lions, offers a behind-the-scenes look, revealing the challenges the team faced, the moments of solidarity and the moments of glory that marked this unforgettable sporting adventure, the Moroccan journalist said.
For his part, the film’s director, Mehdi Bennaceri, indicated that the “Epic” is a celebration of the courage, perseverance and determination of the Atlas Lions, capturing the spirit of football and the commitment of a nation behind its national team, noting that this Moroccan epic is the fruit of the continuous work of the sector’s officials and the sports institutions concerned in order to improve the performance of national football, in accordance with the enlightened royal vision.
“This film retraces the successful Moroccan participation which generated popular enthusiasm and unprecedented support for the Atlas Lions in all the cities of the Kingdom. All Moroccans identified with the national football team, which managed to unite them by conveying values of solidarity and combativeness,” he rejoiced.
The documentary “L’Épopée” was unveiled during a captivating preview evening, immersing viewers in the thrilling journey of the Moroccan national team. Directed by a talented team, this film explores the epic adventure of the players, the highs and lows, the moments of euphoria and challenges faced by the Moroccan team throughout its campaign at the World Cup.
In the film, the director broadcasts the testimonies of several world football legends, such as the Brazilian Rivaldo, the Dutch Patrick Kluivert and the Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor. Former glories of Moroccan football also took part in the documentary, including Mohamed Timoumi, Aziz Bouderbala and Jaouad Zairi. The work also includes the intervention of several stars of art and entertainment.
The film is scheduled to be officially released on the 5th of this month in cinemas in Morocco and abroad, offering everyone the chance to relive this incredible sporting epic that galvanized the hearts and minds of football fans in Morocco and beyond.
