Many citizens formed long queues in front of the centre to donate blood, as a sign of solidarity with the victims of the earthquake which left several dead and injured.

On this occasion, blood donor citizens and the center’s officials called on the population of the economic capital and the region to flock massively to the blood transfusion centers of the region to contribute to saving lives.

In this regard, Dr. Amal Drid, director of the regional blood transfusion center of the Casablanca-Settat region, stressed, in a statement to the press, that as of 2:00 p.m. Saturday, the number of people of different ages and nationalities who have donated their blood amounts to 300 donors.

On this occasion, she urged citizens to flock to the units present in the different cities of the region to donate blood after Friday’s earthquake, especially since the summer period is marked by a slowdown in blood donation operations.

“We need more than 1,000 donors every day to be able to cover the needs of the earthquake victims and replenish stocks of this vital material,” she said, noting that at the regional level, there are blood transfusion centers in Sidi Otman, Hay Mohammadi (Casablanca), at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital (Bouskoura), in Settat and in El Jadida.

The earthquake that struck the province of Al Haouz on Friday evening left 1,037 dead and 1,204 injured, including 721 seriously, according to a provisional report from the Ministry of the Interior, as of 1 p.m. on Saturday.
