Casas leaves for Spain, returns before Philippines World Cup qualifier

/ On Thursday, Ghaleb Al-Zamili, a member of the Football Association, reported that the coach of the Iraqi national team, the Spaniard Jesus Casas, and his assistant staff headed to Spain.

Al-Zamili told Agency that “the federation granted Casas a leave to enjoy after his trip with the national team in the Asian Championship currently taking place in Qatar.”

He said, “The vacation will extend until before the start of the Iraq-Philippines match in the World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March 21 at Basra International Stadium.”

He explained that “Casas will return to lead the team and prepare it before the next match against the Philippines,” noting that “the federation will seek to organize friendly matches for the national team before the match against the Philippines.”

Coach Casas changed his mind about whether or not to leave the Iraqi national team, and decided to continue his mission as coach of the national team after meeting the Iraqi Prime Minister today.

The Iraqi national team was placed in Group 6 of the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup, along with the teams of Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia.
