/ The coach of the Iraqi national team, Jesus Casas, said on Tuesday that he was “very hurt” by the exit of the Lions of Mesopotamia from the round of 16 in the Asian Cup, noting that the name of an entire country cannot be tarnished because of a problem that occurs in a press conference, in a comment on the chaos that occurred yesterday in his press conference after the loss to Jordan.
Casas added in a telephone interview with a Spanish radio station that he was “very sad for the Iraqi national team and its exit in this way from the Asian Championship in the round of 16,” adding that he was “saddened for the fans and Iraq, the wonderful country that hosted us in a wonderful way.”
Casas invited the Spanish broadcaster who interviewed him to visit Iraq and said, “People here are obsessed with Spanish football.”
The Lions of Mesopotamia coach stressed that “the Iraqi people are very hospitable and very kind, and they support us and send us messages of support through social media. The name of an entire country cannot be tarnished because of a problem that occurs at a press conference.”
The Iraqi Football Association condemned, on Monday evening, the events that accompanied the press conference of the national team coach, Jesus Casas, after the Jordan match, in the round of sixteen of the 2023 Asian Cup.
The Asian Football Confederation condemned, on Tuesday, the actions of the individuals who caused the events that took place at Casas’ press conference, describing them as “disturbing and hostile.”
The federation also decided to ban them from all future AFC tournaments, not just the current one.
