Case against former governor and officials of BIFFL

A case has been filed in the Dhaka court against former Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukdar, 10 former and current officials of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) and 12 people including former prime minister’s investment adviser on charges of forced resignation, fraud and defamation.

On Sunday (September 15) in Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam’s court, Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited’s former chief executive officer S.M. Farmanul Islam filed the case as the plaintiff.

The court recorded his statement and directed the investigation agency Police Bureau of Investigation (PBIK) to investigate the allegations and submit a report.

According to the complaint, the defendants in July 2019, in collusion with each other, forced the plaintiff to offer a loan equivalent to Tk 1400 crore for Salman F Rahman’s Teesta Solar Project Former Governor Rauf became angry with the plaintiff when he was told that it was not possible to give it according to the company’s policy. After that, in favor of that project, the plaintiff said that there are not enough funds when he asked for that money as an advance loan saying that he would invest 200 crores in zero coupon bonds. The former governor was once again angry with the plaintiff.

The defendants forced the plaintiff to resign from his job as he refused to accept the illegal benefits from time to time. It is alleged that the plaintiff has suffered irreparable financial loss, social humiliation and defamation.
