Agartala (Tripura): A case has been registered against two women journalists for covering the clashes in Tripura. The case is against Samrudhi Shakunia and Swarna Jha. The Tripura police have charged them with various offenses, including inciting secularism. The action was taken on a complaint by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). As they were about to return to Delhi, the police reached the hotel and took them into custody.

‘The police arrived at the hotel around 10.30 last night. But they did not tell us anything. When we were getting ready to leave the room at 5.30 am, we were told that there was a case against us and we were being taken to the Dharmanagar police station for questioning, ”Swarna Jha tweeted. Swarna also shared a copy of the FIR. ‘We were about to go to the capital, Agartala. But they do not let us go from here. There are 16–17 policemen around the hotel, ”Samrudhi tweeted.

The attack took place on October 26 during a rally of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Bangladesh to protest the violence against temples during Durga Puja. Samridhi and Swarna were the media persons who reported on the demolition of a mosque and shops in Panisagar, Tripura. Meanwhile, the government had said that the demolition of a mosque in Kakraban area of ​​Gomti district was fake.
