A criminal case was opened against a man who installed a video camera in the women’s toilet of an organization in the west of Moscow. This was announced on Thursday, January 13, by a law enforcement source.

“According to the investigation, a 24-year-old citizen in November 2021 installed a video camera in the women’s toilet of Metrovagonmash Service LLC on Rodnikovaya Street,” he was quoted by the Moscow city news agency. The man secretly recorded what was happening in the toilet to collect information about the private life of his visitors.

A criminal case was initiated on violation of privacy. The suspect has been identified and an investigation is underway.

Earlier, on December 5, 2021, cybersecurity experts said that the human factor and absent-mindedness are the main ways of gaining access to video cameras that are used by cybercriminals.

Information security expert Oleg Kupreev noted that one of the most common user mistakes is leaving the default login and password. This makes it easier for an attacker to hack into the camera and gain access to it.
