The Municipal Chamber of Castanheira de Pera will invest 600 thousand euros in a new municipal market, with work expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
The current market “lacks accessibility conditions” and “is completely obsolete regarding the functionality of the spaces,” explained the president of the municipality, António Henriques, on Friday, the 9th.
Therefore, it was decided to renovate a space that “for many years was the original market.” “We will rehabilitate that building, expand it, because we can ensure all quality conditions so that both sellers and buyers have a space to use to its fullest,” he added.
The new market will be located in the Sardinha square, in front of the current one, and “the great improvement is in accessibility conditions.” The municipality aims to launch the public tender by the end of this year.
“This is the next step, and there is an intermediate step, which is the presentation of an application within the scope of Portugal 2030, to see if we can secure funding,” explained António Henriques, highlighting that the goal is to start the project in the first quarter of 2025, with a 12-month execution period.
If the project does not secure funding, “the market will not go unbuilt and the goal to start the works in the first quarter of 2025 remains,” he assured.
