A study day in Castelbuono (Palermo), named after Francesco Min Palumbo, illustrious physician-naturalist of the nineteenth century (1814-1899), born and lived in the Madonie capital, surrounded by fields, woods and mountains. Here, for sixty years he devoted himself to explorations: botany, zoology, paleontology, archeology, anthropology.

Saturday 11 December in the Naturalistic Museum named after him, where his scientific publications and collections are kept (minerals, fossils, tools, prehistoric and historical documents, the herbarium with the entire spontaneous flora of the Madonie), it will be celebrated. The meeting promoted byGeorgofili Academy – historic institution engaged in the development of agricultural, economic and social activities – of which Min Palumbo was a member.

But Castelbuono boasts another member of the Georgofili, the pastry chef Nicola Fiasconaro. A well-known face of the family confectionery company, he will be present as spokesperson for the Academy together with the president Massimo Vincenzini. The proceedings begin with the greeting of the mayor of Castelbuono, Mario Cicero. The event introduced and moderated by Rosario Di Lorenzo, president of the South West Section of the Georgofili and Paolo Inglese, director of the Museum System of the University of Palermo. Participants: Tiziano Caruso, director of the Agricultural, Food and Forestry Sciences Department; Angelo Merlino, president of the Madonie Park Authority; Franco Toscano director of the Museum.

For the occasion, Nicola Fiasconaro will guide and curer, supported by his pastry chefs and chef Pietro Pupillo, the brunch menu dedicated to Francesco Min Palumbo. Dishes inspired by 19th century cuisine and the enhancement of spontaneous plant biodiversity, which makes the heritage of the Madonie area unique. There will be no lack of curious and unpublished taste combinations, which will bring diners back to the time of the scientist. This working table – comments Fiasconaro – represents an important opportunity for the community of Castelbuono both to relaunch the uniqueness of our precious museum and to remember the work of Francesco Min Palumbo.
