CASTELLÓ. Dozens of elderly people and their families have participated in the celebration of Grandparents’ Day, which is commemorated every July 26, coinciding with the anniversaries of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. This event was organized by the Department of Senior Citizens led by councillor Clara Adsuara.
“This initiative is yet another demonstration of this government’s commitment to making our elders the protagonists and allowing them to enjoy a family day alongside their grandchildren, together with various associations of elderly people in Castelló, with Panderola as the host,” Adsuara states.
The Pinar del Grau in Castelló hosted the festive afternoon on Friday, which kicked off at 6:30 PM with family games. A photographic exhibition entitled ‘Happy City’ was also installed, and at the end, music provided the soundtrack with a performance by La Locomotora Jazz Band.
The councillor for Senior Citizens emphasized that “since this event was held in the Pinar, we invited members of the La Panderola association to act as hosts for the other groups.” In this regard, Adsuara noted the good atmosphere among the associations and reminded that “39,000 people over the age of 65 reside in Castelló, accounting for 23% of the population, and 17,000 residents are over 75 years old. Therefore, we must not forget that Castellón is a city friendly to elderly people, who have much to contribute to our society.”
The councillor took the opportunity to express her intention and that of the municipal government to “continue organizing events for our elders because we believe in an intergenerational city that allows our elders to be active and participative in the municipal activities agenda. It is our task to design a program that also fits their needs and interests so that Castellón is the city they deserve,” she concludes.
