The Government of Castilla-La Mancha is going to demand, within the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (CPFF), a debt reduction of more than 5.3 billion euros in order, as it calculates, to be able to equal the financing per inhabitant to which It will result from the condonation of Catalonia after the pact reached between the PSOE and ERC.

This has been indicated by the Minister of Finance and Public Administrations of the Executive of Emiliano García-Page, Juan Alfonso Ruiz Molina, who has pointed out that the region is not going to settle for debt forgiveness being 20% for Castilla-La Mancha -about 2,200 million euros- which is what is going to be forgiven to Catalonia of the debt it maintains with the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA).

Ruiz Molina has regretted that debt forgiveness is going to be granted to an autonomous community that “is not at all underfinanced but rather “quite the opposite” when compared to Castilla-La Mancha. ”Financing, according to the current model, is much better in Catalonia than in Castilla-La Mancha,” he maintained.

Condonation must be decided by an “independent authority”

In this sense, he recalled that the region has been demanding the need for debt forgiveness for those autonomous communities that are known to have been underfinanced with the current financing model and that the amount to be forgiven should not be decided ” anyone” but an independent authority of fiscal responsibility.

Regarding the new financing model, the Castilian-Manchgeo counselor has stated that “it can only be done” multilaterally and within the CPFF. “Therefore, we are against any type of negotiation that affects a single autonomous community or that is decided between the State and a single autonomous community.”

The advisor to the Page Government has said that it is unknown what model was used to reach the 15,000 million euros that are going to be forgiven to Catalonia, approximately 20 percent of the debt it has contracted with the State through the FLA, and that, “in theory”, in a region like Castilla-La Mancha – with 12,000 million in debt – could amount to about 2,200 million euros.

However, it has demanded debt forgiveness for the region that allows it to equal the financing per inhabitant that will result from applying what has been agreed with Catalonia. “Therefore, we are talking about that the remission, to speak in homogeneous terms with Catalonia, should have been greater than 5.3 billion euros,” he indicated.
