Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome to Time.news, everyone! Today, we have a special guest who has made headlines recently – Catalina Duque Abreu, the newly crowned Miss Colombia 2024. Catalina, congratulations on this incredible achievement!
Catalina Duque Abreu (CDA): Thank you so much! It’s truly an honor to be here and to represent Antioquia and Colombia on such a significant platform.
TNE: Let’s dive right in. This is the 90th edition of the National Beauty Contest, a significant milestone for Colombia. How does it feel to be part of such a historic event?
CDA: It’s absolutely surreal! Being crowned in the 90th edition carries a lot of responsibility and pride. This contest has a rich history, and I’m thrilled to carry forward the legacy of strong, empowered women who have represented our country on different stages.
TNE: What do you think sets this edition apart from others in the past?
CDA: This edition has been remarkable in its commitment to highlighting diverse beauty and breaking traditional molds. The focus this year has been not only on aesthetics but also on creativity, intelligence, and social advocacy. I feel that the judges were looking for someone who embodies these principles, and I hope to carry this message forward.
TNE: Speaking of social advocacy, you’re known for your involvement in community initiatives. Can you share what causes you’re passionate about?
CDA: Absolutely! I am deeply passionate about education and environmental conservation. I believe that empowering the youth through education can lead to sustainable societal changes. Additionally, protecting our beautiful natural resources is something I feel strongly about. During my reign, I hope to promote initiatives that focus on these areas.
TNE: In a world where beauty contests are sometimes criticized for their superficial focus, how do you feel you can change perceptions during your time as Miss Colombia?
CDA: That’s a great question. I believe that beauty should be a reflection of one’s character and values, not just physical appearance. I want to challenge the stereotype by using my platform to inspire young women to be confident in themselves, advocate for their beliefs, and engage in their communities.
TNE: As Miss Colombia, you’ll also be representing your nation on international stages. What are your aspirations on that front?
CDA: I aspire to showcase not just beauty, but the rich cultural diversity, resilience, and talents of our people. I hope to participate in international dialogues on issues that matter to us, such as climate change and equality. By sharing Colombia’s stories, I can help foster a greater understanding and appreciation for our culture worldwide.
TNE: What message do you want to send to young girls in Colombia and around the world who look up to you?
CDA: I want them to know that beauty comes in many forms and that they should never feel limited by other people’s definitions of beauty. Embrace who you are, invest in yourself, and pursue your dreams relentlessly. Your voice matters, and you have the power to make a difference!
TNE: Lastly, what’s next for you after this incredible chapter begins?
CDA: I’m excited to take part in various events, initiatives, and competitions. Beyond that, I’ll continue my personal journey of growth and learning, and hopefully inspire others through my experiences. The journey is just beginning!
