Catalonia closed the month of mayo with net job creation of 40,503 employeduntil surpassing for the first time in its history the height of the 3.71 million active workers. Never before had so many Catalans been contributing to Social Security simultaneously, not even before the outbreak of the housing bubble.
The data updated this Friday by the Ministries of Labor and Social Security show that the four Catalan provinces registered their best month of May since 2015 and contributed to the Spanish economy as a whole more than double the number of new employees than the other locomotive in the country, the Madrid’s community.

The good hiring data has not been matched by explosive reductions in unemployment data. Catalonia closed the month of May with 336,103 stopped, barely 2,692 less than in the month of April and the lowest figure since 2008. The reduction has been very little, if compared with previous Mays, when the usual are cuts of between 13,000 and 16,000. With permission from the pandemic, May 2020 has been the weakest month in terms of unemployment reduction since 2009.
