Class of ’43, Catherine Deneuve still made her debut as a teenager in 1956. Success, however, came in ’64, when Jacques Demy chose her as the protagonist of the musical «Les Parapluies de Cherbourg». From there, the French actress was approached for various roles in important films, such as “The constancy of reason”, Roman Polanski’s “Répulsion”, and Bunuel’s “Beautiful day”. Many Hollywood actors who have worked alongside him, such as Jack Lemmon and Gene Hackman, although the films shot with them are not counted among those that Catherine is fond of. A breath of fresh air arrived in his career in 1980, the year in which he starred in the film «The last metro», directed by François Truffaut. Deneuve’s interpretation confirms her as the undisputed female icon of French cinema. Nominated for an Oscar in 1993 for her interpretation in “Indochina”, she recorded her last appearance on the big screen in Hirokazu Kore’eda’s film, “The Truth”.
