The cats in the Berlin animal shelter should get a new quarantine station. One million euros in donations have already been collected, another three million are still needed.

An average of 1,500 cats come to the Berlin animal shelter every year. Many of them are sick. Therefore, all cats must be isolated for a short time after their arrival. The old quarantine station had to be demolished in 2020 due to dilapidation. Since then, the cats have had to spend the time of isolation in mobile containers. It’s not meant to be.

Instead, the animals should spend their quarantine in a 350 square meter station in the future. But the costs of more than four million euros cannot be met by the animal shelter alone – donations are collected.

Thanks to its supporters, the animal shelter has already collected one million euros, and the second million is now to follow. The money is to be invested in treatment rooms, cat rooms, 120 quarantine boxes and ventilation systems for heat protection, among other things.

The walls of the new station are already in place, and the roof conversion has already begun. The interior work will continue from autumn, and everything should be ready in spring 2024. Those responsible are happy about every donation.

Eva Rönspieß, Chairwoman of the Board of the Animal Welfare Association for Berlin: “First and foremost, we pay for every investment in the future from reserves. Luckily everything is now going according to plan at the construction site and our cats will soon have a new home.”

From a donation of 20 euros there is already a new brick, with 250 euros a complete cat box with bowl and Co. can be paid for.

All information about the donation is available online at https://tierschutz-berlin.de/katzenquarantaene/spenden/.
