Caught in a storm on the Pale: two groups of mountaineers rescued – News

TRENTO. Two teams of four climbers in total – two women born in 1995 and 1987 and two men born in 1980 and 1965 – were rescued in the early afternoon today, August 31, after being surprised by the storm while they were climbing the Edge of the Veil of the Madonna’s Peakin the Pale di San Martino group. Unharmed but no longer able to complete the route independently, they called for help from the Single Emergency Number 112 shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The Central Emergency Unit requested the intervention of the helicopter that took on board an operator and a helicopter rescue technician from the San Martino di Castrozza Station. Having flown at high altitude, the helicopter hoisted the two helicopter rescue technicians from the Alpine Rescue team onto the wall. Once they reached the mountaineers, they secured them and then hoisted them aboard the helicopter. None of the four needed hospitalization. They were transported to the Velo della Madonna Refuge.

The operators of the San Martino di Castrozza Alpine Rescue Station also intervened along path 713 which from Madonna’s Velo refuge door towards the valley, to help some hikers having difficulty crossing the streams that had swollen following the storm. Three rescuers reached the people in difficulty and accompanied them safely down the valley.
