A captivating evening of storytelling and a vibrant orchestral concert are set to enrich the cultural landscape of the Quercy Caussadais region in France this week, offering diverse artistic experiences for audiences of all ages.

A Tale of Ambition and Downfall: “The Waltz of Icarus”

The So… tell! festival will host acclaimed French actor, playwright, and director Nicolas Devort for a performance of his original work, “La Valse d’Icare” – or “The Waltz of Icarus” – on Saturday, January 31st, at 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at the village hall in Puylaroque.

Devort is known for making theater accessible, particularly to younger audiences, with productions centered around classic playwrights like Molières and Edmond Rostand. He distinguishes himself by embodying all characters with “liveliness, intelligence, emotion, modernity, humor, poetry,” transforming each show into a dynamic, singular performance.

“The Waltz of Icarus” explores the complex journey of a gifted musician and singer named Icare, whose rapid ascent to success is shadowed by internal struggles. The narrative, suitable for audiences aged 11 and up, delves into the question of maintaining humility and grounding amidst overwhelming praise. According to promotional materials, the story unfolds as “the epic of a life in three movements,” promising a musical, sensitive, funny, and ultimately tragic experience.

The performance relies heavily on Devort’s ability to bring a “gallery of colorful characters” to life through his voice and physicality, leaving room for the audience’s imagination to complete the picture.
