The transfer announcements for the Movistar Team men’s team for 2024 reach their sixth chapter this Thursday with the announcement of Rémi Cavagna (Clermont-Ferrand, FRA; 1995). The Frenchman, from Soudal – Quick Step, will be part of the blue team at least until the end of the 2026 season.

The current French national champion CRI comes to the Movistar Team with six years of WorldTour experience under his belt, appearances in all three Grand Tours and, without a doubt, his best season to date in 2023.

In addition to the title obtained in Cassel, the ‘TGV’ (as it is affectionately known, in honor of the French high-speed train) won the European mixed relay title in Essen (NED); a stage – solo escape – and the general stage of the Tour of Slovakia; two partials of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali; and silver in the CRE World Cup. He was also 3rd in time trials in Romandía and Dauphiné; 6th in the demanding Tour de France time trial… A ‘life insurance’ when it comes to fighting against the clock.

STATEMENTS:

Rémi Cavagna: «It is a new challenge for me. It has been seven beautiful years with Quick Step, enjoying my profession and learning a lot, but I felt that I needed to make a change to reach my maximum potential. As with QST, joining the Movistar Team is entering a team that is part of cycling history, with such important riders who have passed through its ranks. I am very proud to come here, and I come hungry for success and ready to give my all for the group. You always want to win for yourself, of course, but I also enjoy helping my teammates achieve victories and building a beautiful project. I already know people from the group and I really want to share colors in 2024.

I have very attractive challenges on the horizon for these three years. I’m going to discover the classics of the North with the team, with that special atmosphere. I’m looking forward to facing the pavé with this group and discovering those tests. On the other hand, and as everyone knows, I am a time trial specialist, and in the last couple of years, although I have done well, I have felt that something was missing. I want to reach my maximum as a ‘croner’, work on the position and all aspects both in pure performance and in aerodynamics. If I want to be one of the best, I have a lot of work ahead of me in these years.

In the previous days, Movistar announced the hiring of Javier Romo, Pelayo Sánchez, Davide Formolo, Carlos Canal and Manlio Moro. At least a couple more signings are expected and will be announced in the next few hours.
