CBI Seizes Cash and Assets Worth Rs 20 Crore in Raid on Former Chairman of Wapcos Limited and Family Members for Illegal Acquisition: Water and Power Consultancy Services Under Ministry of Water Power Involved in Corruption Scandal

Delhi: The CBI has recovered Rs 20 crore in a raid on the premises of Rajinder Kumar Gupta, former chairman and managing director of Wapcos Limited, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Water Power, and his family members. The raid took place on Tuesday. The CBI has also registered a case against Gupta, his wife Reema Singhal, son Gaurav and daughter-in-law Komal for acquiring illegal assets.

“The accused also allegedly started consultancy business in the name of a Delhi-based private company after retiring from service. The immovable properties allegedly owned by the accused include flats, commercial properties and farmhouses spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat and Chandigarh,” a CBI spokesperson said.

According to the spokesman, the CBI conducted searches at 19 locations in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonipat and Ghaziabad and recovered jewelery and other valuables and documents worth Rs 20 crore (approx).

Water and Power Consultancy Services or WAPCOS is a Central Government owned company. The company is focused on infrastructure development, water and power related areas, as well as providing guidance for project implementation, engineering construction works, and resource procurement. The company, under the Ministry of Water Power, also provides its services internationally.
