Nilambur ∙ A petition in the High Court demanding a CBI probe into the murder of Kozhikode expatriate businessman Harris and an employee from Chalakudy in Abu Dhabi. Harris’s mother approached the court citing the limitations of the Kerala Police in investigating the crime committed outside the country. The petition will be considered after Onam.

Both were killed on May 5, 2020. Preparations have been completed for exhuming the body of the Chalakudy native and conducting the post-mortem. The body buried in Chalakudy St. Joseph’s church cemetery will be taken out on 25th at nine in the morning in the presence of Tehsildar. The body will be taken to Thrissur Medical College and post-mortem will be conducted under the supervision of the head of forensics. The Scientific Crime Investigation Unit under the Malappuram District Police Chief will conduct evidence collection.

The co-accused have given a statement that they committed the double murder on the instructions of Nilambur Kaipanchari Shaibin Ashraf, the main accused in the case of abducting and killing traditional healer Shaba Sharif of Mysuru. The employee was first suffocated to death in the flat of Harris, Shaib’s business partner. Evidence was fabricated to make it appear that Harris was the murderer. The co-accused also said that Harris slapped the employee’s face and left a fingerprint on it. Harris was then slashed and thrown into the bathtub.

The police found that Shaibin Harris’ relationship with his wife was the main motive for the murders. It is said that the reason for the murder was to acquire the income of Harris, a business partner. Police have collected phone conversations between Harris’ wife and Shaibin as evidence. A senior official said that this young woman, who is currently abroad, will be charged in the case.

Meanwhile, the police started to collect evidence from Abu Dhabi in connection with the double murder. In this regard, the State Police Chief will send a letter to the Union Home Ministry. The letter will be forwarded to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi through the CBI’s Interpol wing. The documents of the case in Abu Dhabi will be procured through the embassy. If necessary, the investigating officers will go to Abu Dhabi.
