CCM announces the films competing at the Tangier National Film Festival

The films competing in the different categories, namely feature-length fiction films, short fiction and documentary films, feature-length documentaries, as well as films in the panorama section, were selected by three separate and independent commissions composed of Moroccan cinema professionals, the CCM said in a press release, specifying that the selection commissions viewed the registered films and held their deliberation meetings at the Center’s headquarters.

The pre-selection committee for feature-length fiction films, composed of producer and director (President) Driss Mrini, actress and screenwriter Noura Skali, director and producer Mohamed Ahed Bensouda, academic and researcher in social and human sciences Abderrahman Tenkoul, and sociologist, novelist and screenwriter Othman Acheqra, held its meeting on August 27, to select 15 films, after deliberation by its members.

These include Kissat Wafaa by Abdelali Tahiri, Footprints of the Wind by Layla Triqui, Hôtel de la paix by Jamal Belmejdoub, Que d’amour by Kamal Kamal, The Silence of the Violins by Saad Chraibi, Triple A by Jihane El Bahhar, Journal intime by Mohamed Chrif Tribak, Moroccan Bada$$ girl by Hicham Lasri, The Last Rehearsal by Yassine Fennane, Animalia by Sofia Alaoui, 404.01 by Younes Reggab, Elwatra by Driss Roukhe, A Corpse on the Shore by Mohammed Faouzi Aksel, Déserts by director Faouzi Bensaïdi, and Les Meutes by Kamal Lazraq.

The pre-selection committee for short fiction and documentary films is composed of Fatine Janane Mohammadi, director (President), El Houssine Hnine, producer and director and Mohamed Beyoud, artistic director of the Meknes International Animation Film Festival. The committee held its meeting on August 30, to decide on the 15 selected films, after deliberation by its members.

These include Beneath a Mother’s Feet by Elias Suhail, Milk Brothers by Kenza Tazi, The Last Day by Lakhdar El Hamdaoui, Son of the Amazons by Otman Salil, Brother by Younes Bouab, Airplane Mode by Mohamed Amine El Ahmar, Grey Days by Abir Fathouni, For Me by Intissar El Azhari, Silent Sighs by Meryem Jabbour, Rachid by Rachida El Garani, A Memory for Oblivion by El Houari Ghoubari, Nejma by Abdellah Elmoukadem, Yenna … The Bread Crust by Ayoub Ait Bihi, A Lamb, A Sheep and Ravens by Aymane Hammou, and Waking Up by Saad Benidir.

The pre-selection committee for feature-length documentary films, composed of Hassan El Bouharrouti, documentary director (President), Rabiha Aherdane, journalist at Radio Amazigh – SNRT and Rachid Kasmi, documentary director, had for its part, held its meeting on August 27, with a view to selecting 15 films.

These include Mora est là by Khalid Zairi, The Mother of All Lies by Asmae El Moudir, Better by Kamal Ourahou, Larbi, Justo …and the Others by Abdelhamid Karim and Leila El Amine Demnati, Water Master by Fouad Souiba, Jauk El Maleh by Hassan Benjelloun, Cubaraouis by Aziz Khouadir, Bubbles by Hassan Maanany, Knife on Canvas by Oumaima Elachy, Palace Guardians by Aida Bouya, Three Moons Behind a Hill by Abdellatif Fdil, Khaymat Rag by Sidi Mohamed Fadil Eljoummani, Chayaa by Zaynab Toubali, Tilimzoune Mémoire du Sahara by Ahmed Bouchalga and The Livelihood of Roses by Mounia El Goumi.

In the panorama category, some 7 feature-length fiction and documentary films, as well as 7 short films, will be in the running for the prize.

For feature-length fiction and documentary films, these are Quitte ou double by Rachida Saadi, Fès été 55 by Abdelhai Laraki, Jouj by Rabie Shajid, Sisterhood by Nora El Horch, Jaguar (documentary) by Zaki Rachid, La Dame du Centre by Malika Maalainine, and Les Gardiens de Mogador (documentary) by Abdelhakim Jehouani.

Concerning short fiction and documentary films, the selected films are Book of the Day by Walid Lamharzi Alaoui, Mandarine by Hiba El Bouchtaoui, Bye Bye Benz Benz (documentary) by Mamoun Rtal Bennani and Jules Rouffio, Bottles by Yassine El Idrissi, Zaid from Ugliness to Beauty (documentary) by Mohammed Dabani, Eyes of the Moon by Rajae El Jaouahri, and Casting by Leila Mesbahi.
