Promoting dialogue, building bridges and mitigating the impact of geopolitical tensions on the work of the Council will be among the priorities of the Moroccan presidency of the HRC, in the person of the ambassador, permanent representative of the kingdom in Geneva, Omar Zniber, lit -on in a note received by the MAP on “the opportunities and challenges of the Council in 2024”.
Morocco has always actively supported the Council, recalled Mr. Zniber, quoted in the note, assuring that it “firmly believes in the crucial mandate” of the Council, as well as in the collective capacity of the Member States of the United Nations, to fulfill this mandate and to strengthen respect, promotion and protection of human rights throughout the world.
“I intend to do everything in my power to expand the possibilities for dialogue and consultation between States, across and between all political and regional groups,” he stressed, noting of its desire to bring delegations together to better understand each other’s points of view and positions, build trust and, wherever possible, find common ground.
Among the priorities of the Moroccan presidency is also the use of “good offices” to promote dialogue and cooperation between all parties concerned, including the States and the regional group concerned, in order to avoid further violations of human rights. man or a worsening of seizures.
With the aim of improving and strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of the Council, the Council should launch an inclusive process of consultations, in order to collect and consolidate the views, proposals and voices of members and observers of the HRC as part of a “self-reflection” exercise.

Regarding thematic issues, priority will be given in particular to questions of food security and health security, and to the impacts of climate change and new technologies on human rights.
On January 10, Morocco was elected to the presidency of the United Nations HRC for the year 2024, during a vote held in Geneva.
