CDMX Congress gives a minute of applause to Ifigenia Martínez

By way of tributethe full Mexico City Congress dedicated a minute of applause in memory of Ifigenia Martínezformer president of the Chamber of Deputies who died on October 5, days after delivering the presidential sash to President Claudia Sheinbaum.

At the start of the ordinary session held this October 8, legislators recognized the contributions of the social fighter, as well as her political career.

“Before starting our work I want to ask that we provide a minute of applause in memory of teacher Ifigenia Martínez,” requested the president of the Board of Directors of Congress, Martha Ávilawho recognized the legislator as “an exceptional Mexican who dedicated much of her life to the fight for the democratization of the Country.”

In his message, he highlighted his social contribution to open a gap to women in various spaces of public life, academia and politics, while offering a hug of solidarity to family and friends.

As a tribute, a photograph of Iphigenia who remained visible in the room during the session.

Ifigenia Martínez y Hernández died on October 5, at the age of 94, surrounded by her family in her home. Just four days ago, on October 1, he handed over the presidential sash to Mexico’s first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
