CDMX Congress integrates Evaluation Committee for judicial election process

Violating the principle of gender parity, the Special Commission for the Selection of Judges and Magistrates of the Congress capital approved the integration of Evaluation Committee for the selection process of the Judiciary of the Mexico City.

In a virtual session, the deputy PRI, Tania Larios warned that the integration of the Committee, in charge of evaluating the candidates, violates gender parity as it is made up of four men and only one woman.

“You have just accepted that the principle of parity is not being complied with, but that is the law, it is a legal issue, it is not optional… we cannot violate this principle. It would seem very delicate to me because that could fall into political gender violence,” he mentioned to the president of the commission, Alberto Martínez Urincho (Morena).

For his part, the deputy of Citizen Movement (MC) left the session after noticing violations “of the code of electoral procedures, the Judicial Reform and our own regulations.”

Despite the observations of the legislators, Deputy Martínez Urincho protested to the members of the Committee, after pointing out the need to advance the process given that the registration and receipt of documents from applicants begins this Tuesday.

Who makes up the Evaluation Committee?

The Evaluation Committee of the capital Congress was made up of Mauricio Augusto Calcaneo Monts, Israel Sandoval Jiménez, Sandra Araceli Vivanco Morales, Julián Güitrón Fuentevilla y Mario Juarez Ugalde.

Like the local legislature, each branch must integrate an evaluation committee made up of five people recognized in legal activity, to receive the files of the applicants, evaluate compliance with the legal requirements and select the best evaluated people.
