The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) reported on the dismantling of a criminal gang calling itself “The Fat Potatoes”, composed of seven men and one womanwho allegedly carried out express kidnappings of drivers of digital and application platforms, and were also dedicated to dispossession of real estate.

Ulisas Lara López, in charge of the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office, He pointed out that investigations by the Investigation policederived from the disappearance of a private transport app driver, whose body was found days later, allowed the identification of the members of this criminal group.

Those arrested allegedly used fake profiles to request transportation services through applications or digital platforms.

Once the drivers arrived at the agreed location, the criminals violently robbed them of their vehicles.

Area of ​​operation

Their main area of ​​action was the Iztapalapa and Tláhuac municipalities in Mexico City, as well as some areas of the State of Mexico, Lara López explained.

In the first action, the seven men were arrested for the crime of criminal association and placed at the disposal of the control judge at the Northern Men’s Preventive Prison.

Subsequently, the judicial authority issued three other arrest warrants against Miguel Ángel “N”, possible leader of the gang, Irbing “N” and Giovanna “N”, for their probable participation in the crime of express kidnapping. These three individuals were notified of the court order while they were already in custody.

Lara López mentioned that the investigations led by the agent of the Public Ministry continue to determine the possible participation of “Lthe Fatpopes“in other illegal activities and to clarify the case of the missing private transport driver.
